India and Japan collaborate on AI earthquake early warning

India and Japan have signed a memorandum to co-develop an AI-based earthquake early-warning system. Utilizing dense networks of seismic sensors, the model will predict earthquake waves and enable 30‑45 seconds of public warning via mobile alerts and sirens. Pilot installations are planned in Delhi-NCR and Tokyo suburbs. The partnership will involve JAXA, Indian Institute of Seismology, and private AI labs. The system aims to reduce casualties during tremors above magnitude 6.0.
